One of Two New Dye House Boilers Being Delivered

One of Two New Dye House Boilers Being Delivered

Adam Carpets have embarked on a major project to upgrade their on site dye house in 2014. This project represents a major investment including replacing the existing boiler with two smaller more energy efficient ones.

Although work is expected to last two months, no interruption to production will be caused as the current boiler will continue to run until the two new ones have been brought on stream.

“Although our current boiler was not quite at the end of its life span” said Chris Adam, Managing Director, “we believed that this was the right time to upgrade our facilities within our dye house to ensure that we will be able to meet the continuing upturn in demand for our products.”

The two boilers will replace an existing larger boiler. This will mean that the dye house can run more efficiently and save money and water, thereby helping the environment.

“As most of our customers know, all the plain colours in our ranges are dyed by us here at our factory. This large investment is a statement to our customers that we are here for the long term. The life of these boilers is anything up to forty years, so we will be here dyeing our own yarns for our own carpets made in Kidderminster for many more years to come” said Chris.

Adam Carpets recently attended the National Buying Group Show at the headquarters of AIS (Association of Independent Stores) based at Cranmore Park, Solihull.

The show was held over two days and was a great success with visitor numbers up on the previous year. The first afternoon saw one of the buying groups, Flooring One, announce and present its Supplier of the Year awards.

Adam Carpets were delighted to be awarded third place this year. The awards are voted for by the members of Flooring One and cover all aspects of customer service from ranges and deliveries to quality and performance.

The FTBA (Furnishings Trade Benevolent Association) held their annual two day Golf Tournament at Kidderminster Golf Club recently.

This brilliant charity is celebrating its 58th year and has big plans for its 60th anniversary in two years time.

The golf days were well supported with many major UK manufacturers entering teams. The initial estimates regarding the amount raised over the two days was somewhere around £9,000. A great effort from all involved including Barclays Bank, who were a sponsor of the day.

Shaun Lewis and Mark Rooney from Victoria Carpets also deserve a special mention for their hard work.

From an Adam Carpets perspective the team came 10th out of 23. A decent effort considering our abilities!

When north east retailer Rowland May was approached by the Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk to come up with a suitable carpet for their bar area, one carpet immediately sprang to mind.

With it’s woven like appearance and quality of yarn, Marquette Plaid by Adam Carpets was an obvious choice.

Working with our Business Development Manager, Tony Cook, they were able to meet the criteria set down by their client and bring the project in on time and on budget.

The Rose & Crown were delighted with the end result as were we.

Our thanks to the Rose & Crown for the use of their image.

Adam Carpets are making changes to their labels so that customers can easily recognise the benefits of our carpets.

TOG RATINGS AND UNDERFLOOR HEATING

Wool rich carpet is well known for its insulation properties, and  the tog rating of  a  wool rich carpet is very much  dependant upon its Pile Weight,  Density of Construction and type of backing.

Generally the heavier the pile weight and the denser the construction the higher the tog rating.

The majority of Adam Carpets ranges would achieve a rating of between 1.50 – 2.2 tog.

Careful consideration should be given to both the temperature ranges of the heating system, and the type of underlay to be used.

Note for information;

Heat exchange between floor surface and carpet is further insulated by the type of underlay used. Figures between 0.80 and 1.50 tog have been quoted by manufacturers (foam underlays generally have a lower tog rating than felts).

Please note that the insulating effect of underlay and carpet are, to some extent, cumulative.

To determine a working approximation the tog rating of both carpet and underlay should be added together and 1.0 tog subtracted. Extensive research has shown that this calculation gives a more realistic value of the total tog value.

For example: Carpet at 1.70, underlay at 1.40,

1.70 + 1.40 – 1.0 = 2.10 tog (suitable for floors 2.11 tog and above)

GUIDELINE TOG RATINGS:

Kasbah Twist                                      2.10 – 2.20
